Weekly Drama Literacy Projects 

Where stories come to life, before they hit the page

KS1/KS2

Play & Publish is a six-week, small group, storytelling project that sparks imagination and strengthens writing.

Through drama, creative play and collaborative storytelling, Play & Publish helps children grow in confidence as writers.

Each week, pupils explore a new part of the writing process by stepping into character, building vivid settings and acting out their ideas before putting pen to paper.

They learn how to craft dialogue, structure a plot and bring their stories to life with rich description and a strong narrative voice.

 

By the end of the six weeks, they'll have co-written and performed their very own adventure story, which will be published and delivered for all to be proud of.

Year 6

The Adventure Authors Club is a six-week, group storytelling programme that uses drama, creative play and collaborative writing to help Year 6 pupils develop confidence and skill as authors.

 

Each week focuses on a different stage of the writing process, building imaginative settings, developing characters, shaping plot structure, crafting dialogue and bringing scenes to life through performance. Pupils step into role, act out key moments and experiment with language before turning their ideas into written work.

 

Across the six weeks, they co-create an original adventure story, which is edited, rehearsed and finally performed before being published as a keepsake for pupils.

The 'Play & Publish' project has captured the children's imaginations and had them engaged every week. It was incredible to witness children who are sometimes self conscious or reluctant to participate in class, fully engage and embrace the learning

St Edmundsbury Primary

This class has a number of children that regularly refuse to take part in learning activities and struggle to engage with some lessons...NOT TODAY! Every child was completely immersed in the story and it was an absolute joy to watch their faces
